Race For the Cure is almost here again... I first started to donate to the cause two years ago because I was a working man and was browsing for charities to donate to. It was a no-brainer to donate an average week's salary to Our Lady of the Lake's Childrens' Hospital and a charity for women, each. Anyways, I've always looked forward to receiving letters from the national Susan G. Komen foundation along with KomenBR asking me for ways to give. It's really an honor to be charitable, whether it be volunteering or writing checks. Giving doesn't mean giving by the hundred or thousand. It can be an hour of time to volunteer, or even a dollar to buy a red heart or shamrock at a local grocery store to support a cause. I'm super excited about Race for the Cure because it's the first year that I'm going to sponsor participants/friends who are willingly taking time away from their Saturday morning to help fight for a cause. It's going to be a great day. I originally planned to sponsor five participants but with the response that I've been given, it looks like it's going to be a lot more, or everyone I know that's in it. From high school friends to teammates to student organizations like VSA and best friends... it's just great to see everyone come together. In theory, if 10 participants can raise $100 each by just asking 10 people to donate $10, that $100 can pay for one uninsured mammogram. Imagine if each of the 10,000 participants from last year's race raised $100, that would bring in $1,000,000 of donations to bringing us one step closer to finding a cure. There's one week left to until the race. Click here to register to volunteer or participate in the 5K race. See you guys out there!
